Description

Azure Hearthstone’s Whole Wheat Sourdough Bread brings together the nutritional advantages of whole grains with the digestive benefits of a slow fermentation process, making it a highly nutritious choice. It offers high fiber content, enhanced mineral absorption, a low glycemic index, and improved digestibility compared to standard breads.

  • High Fiber Content: Made with organic whole wheat flour, our bread provides significant dietary fiber, which supports healthy digestion, promotes satiety, and helps regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
  • Enhanced Nutrient Absorption: The fermentation process breaks down phytic acid, a compound that can inhibit mineral absorption, thereby increasing the bioavailability of essential minerals like iron, zinc, and magnesium.
  • Improved Digestibility: The natural fermentation with wild yeast and lactobacilli breaks down gluten and complex carbohydrates, making it easier to digest for some individuals, even those with mild gluten sensitivity (though it is not gluten-free).
  • Lower Glycemic Index: Whole wheat sourdough has a lower glycemic index (GI) than regular white bread, leading to a slower, more gradual rise in blood sugar, which supports stable energy levels and is beneficial for blood sugar management.
  • Gut Health Support: The fermentation process produces prebiotic compounds and beneficial organic acids that support a healthy gut microbiome, promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria and aiding overall digestive health.
  • Rich in Antioxidants: The lactic acid bacteria in sourdough contribute to increased antioxidant levels, including vitamin E, carotenoids, and flavonoids, which help protect cells from oxidative damage linked to chronic diseases.

To thaw frozen sourdough bread, remove from the freezer and let sit at room temperature for 2–4 hours. For best results, place it on a cutting board or in a bread box to prevent condensation buildup.

For a warm, fresh-like texture, refresh the loaf in the oven: preheat to 350°F (175°C), sprinkle with water, and bake for 10–15 minutes.

Slicing before freezing allows you to thaw only what you need.

Directions

To reheat frozen prebaked sourdough

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. After thawing, quickly run the crust under cool water to moisten it.
  3. Place the loaf on a baking sheet or directly on the oven rack.
  4. Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the crust is crisp and the interior is warm.
  5. For individual slices, toast them in a toaster or toaster oven, or warm them in a lightly buttered skillet on the stovetop.
